Nietoslapaset / Drift of Snow mittens
Nämä ovat Nietos-sarjan kolmas osa. Aikaisemmin suunnittelin sarjaan sukat ja säärystimet. Testineulojilta lähti idea lapasiin ja pitihän sellaiset suunnitella neuloa ja testata ihan käytännössä vaelluksella.

These are the Third part of the Drift of Snow series. Earlier I designed and published Drift of Snow socks and leg warmers. The idea for the mittens came from the test knitters of the socks, and of course, I needed to make it happen. I even tested them on a hike.
Lapasten väriraidat noudattelevat samaa kuviointia, mutta eivät ole aivan yhtenäiset. Jokaisessa sarjan osassa on jotain omaa uniikkia kuviossa vaikka ne helposti samaan sarjaa huomaa kuuluvan. Ajatuksena on tehdä vielä kauluri tähän sarjaan.
The motif of the mittens is similar to the socks and leg warmers, but not the same. There is something unique in each piece of this series even though they are clearly alike. I have an idea about designing a cowl for this this series as well.

Omat värivalintani ovat lähteneet tästä ihanasta Suomen luonnosta ja pohjoisen tuntureiden kasvillisuudesta. Jokainen saa helposti omat persoonalliset lapaset valitsemalla kolmea eri sävyä omiin lapasiin.
My color choices come from the Finnish nature and the vegetation of the Northern fells. You can easily make the mittens uniquely your by choosing colours that suit your liking and personality.
Ohjeessa on kaksi kokoa; pienempi koko (aikuisen naisen) ja isompi koko (aikuisen miehen). Samalla ohjeella voi myös tehdä alus- ja päällyslapasen, jos tykkää pakkasilla pitää kaksia lapasia päällekkäin. Lapasesta on helppo muunnella oman kokoinen, sillä kärjen ja peukalon pituutta on helppo säätää.
Nietoslapset ovat perinteiset villalapset, joissa on ranteessa resori ja kärjessä leveä nauhakavennus. Peukalo tehdään apulangalla. Jos peukalon tekeminen apulangalla on uusi tekniikka niin kurkkaa vaihe vaiheelta ohjeet täältä blogista vaikka Sydämellisten lapasten ilmaisesta ohjeesta. Sillä on hyvä harjoitella.

The pattern has two sizes; smaller (average women's size) and bigger (average men's size), but you can use the two sizes of the pattern to make inner and outer mitten, if you like to wear mittens on top of each other for the colder days like we here many times do. The pattern has some modification options to make the mittens fit you well; you can easily make longer tip for the mitten or the thumb.
The mittens are traditional woolly mittens like I have learned to make with grandma or at school. The is a rib in the wrist and wide decreases  on the tip (barn toe decreases). The thumb is knit with waste yarn. If this is a new technique for you, you can find clear step-by-step instruction for it here in my blog. Vinkkivitonen värien valintaan on, että valitsemistaan väreistä kannattaa ottaa mustavalkoinen kuva niin huomaa helposti erottuvatko sävyt tarpeeksi toisistaan. Itse käytän tätä kikkaa usein varmistaakseni sävyjen erottuvuuden ennen kuin aloitan neuleen tai ostan langat.
To give you a tip about choosing colours for your project, use photographs. I advice you to take picture of the yarn you have chosen and turn it into a black and white one (easy to do with any phone these days). You can easily see in a black and white photo if the colours/shades are different enough for your knit. I use this a lot, just to make sure before I start knitting or buy yarn.
Vaikka kuvassa oleva Jäkäläkauluri ei varsinaisesti olekaan samaa sarjaa Nietoslapasten kanssa, kaikki neuleeni ovat saaneet inspiraationsa luonnosta ja sovita siten hyvin yhteen. Jäkäläkauluri on tällä hetkellä testineulonnassa ja ohje julkaistaan seuraavien elokuussa 2026.
Even though the Lichen cowl in the picture above, is not part of the Drift of Snow series, it works well with these mittens. This is probably because the Lichen cowl like my other designs take inspiration from the nature around here - so, they work well together. The Lichen cowl is being test knitted in July and will be published during August 2026. 


Nietoslapaset, kuten muutkin suunnittelemani neuleet, on tehty käyttöön. Näitä on jopa testattu tunturiolosuhteissa, mutta toimivat varmasti ihan samalla tavalla myös kävelylenkeillä tai bussia odottaessa bussipysäkillä.
The Drift of Snow mittens like my other designs are made to be worn. These knits have even been tested in practice while hiking, but work just as well on walks or waiting for a bus at a bus stop in the city.
