Jäkäläkauluri / Nordic Lichen Cowl

Kun syysillat viilenevät, ihanan ohut villainen kauluri on kiva asuste. Tämä kauluri löysi inspiraationsa marjametsästä, poronpallerojäkälän pehmeästä, vaaleasta pinnasta metsän pohjalla — ja siksipä oma mallikappaleeni onkin vaalea, mutta malli taipuu kyllä moneen väriin ihanasti.

Pitsinen neule menee nätisti ryttyyn kaulalla ja antaa tilaa hengittää, jättäen pehmeän, ilmavan tunnun ihoa vasten. Malli on helppo ja sopii jonkin verran pyöröpuikoilla neuloneelle aloittelijallekin — pitsikuvio toistuu selkeästi eikä vaadi monimutkaisia tekniikoita. Kaulurin pituutta ja leveyttä on helppo muokata omaan makuun sopivaksi, mutta ohjeessa se on testattu aikuiselle sopivaksi kokonaisuudeksi.

As autumn evenings turn cooler, a lovely, lightweight wool cowl is the perfect companion for an evening walk. This cowl found its inspiration in a Finnish forest, in the pale, soft carpet of reindeer lichen growing among the moss of that quiet Nordic landscape — which is why my own sample is knit in a light, pale shade, though the pattern takes to many other colours just as beautifully.

The lace stitch falls into a lovely ruche around the neck, leaving room to breathe and a soft, airy feel against the skin. The pattern is easy and well suited even to a beginner — the lace motif repeats clearly and doesn't call for any complicated techniques. The cowl's length and width are easy to adjust to your own taste, though the pattern as written has been tested for an adult size.

Tämä on nopea neulottava kokeneelle neulojalla, mutta onnistuu hyvin myös jonkin verran pyöröpuikoilla neuloneelta aloittelijaltakin. Tässä kaulurissa on hyvä harjoitella helppoa ja toistuvaa pitsikuviota muutaman silmukan opettelulla eli jos olet miettinyt osaisitkohan neuloa pitsineuletta, tällä ohjeella on hyvä aloittaa. Toistuva pitsikuvio on suhteellisen helppo oppia muistamaan ja kuvio syntyy helpoilla perussilmukoilla. Näistä perussilmukoista löytyy myös useita youtube videoita, jos olet enemmän visuaalinen oppija. Ja lopputulos palkitsee - kaunis varmasti käyttöön tuleva kauluri valitsemillasi väreillä. Suosittelen kyllä kokeilemaan!

If you have been wondering weather you can knit a lace, this is a project for you. This is a simple pattern and the repetition is quite easy to remember. This pattern will introduce common lace stitches that are easy to learn. You can even find tons of youtube tutorials on each stitch if you are a more visual learner. And the outcome will be your reward - a beautiful wearable cowl in a color of your choice. I urge you to try.

Tämä on nopea ja mukava neulottava kokeneelle neulojalla viikonloppu projektiksi tai matkaneuleeksi. 

If you are a more experienced knitter, this is an enjoyable weekend knit or travel knit project.

Jokainen testineuloja piti tätä nopeana neuleena. Loistava junamatkoille tai rentouttavaksi iltaneulomukseksi tai vaikka viikonloppuprojektiksi mökille. 

TämäKauluri piti ehdottomasti ottaa mukaan päivävaellukselle pohjoiseen. Kuvat on Mallan luonnonpuistosta, jossa pikku Mallan päällä oli tuulista ja vain + 8 C - heinäkuussa! Kauluri tuli todella tarpeeseen.

I absolutely had to take this cowl to Northern Lapland for a hike and photo shoot. And it turned out that I actually needed the cowl as it was only +8 C and windy on top of the fjell - in July!

Kauluri on neulottu DK vahvuisella (260m/100g) langalla, mutta hieman ohuempi ja paksumpi lanka toimii ohjeessa myös, koska sitä on helppo muokata. Lankavalinnassa suosittelen kokeilemaan, mikä lanka on miellyttävä kasvoja vasten, sillä sellaista tulee eniten pidettyä.

The Cowl is knit with DK weight yarn (260m/100g), but a bit lighter or thicker yarn will work just as well as the pattern is easily adjustable. Choosing the yarn for the cowl, I would advise you to choose a yarn that you can wear close to your face. With yarn like that you will wear this cowl a lot more.

Tässä (kuvat yläpuolella ja alapuolella) testineulojat ovat neuloneet ohjeen mukaisella langalla ja aivan upeilla väreillä! Ehkä minun täytyy tehdä vielä toinen itsellenikin vaikka näillä ihanilla väreillä.

Look at these absolutely beautiful colours the test knitters have chosen! (pictures above and below) Both of these have been knit with DK yarn this pattern calls for. But the colours! - I would wear both of these. 

Maybe I need to knit another for myself.

Tässä (kuva yläpuolella) testineuloja teki kaulurin ohjetta ohuemmalla langalla ja yhdessä mietittiin, että hän teki yhden kuvion leveämmän ja yhden kuvion korkeamman kuin ohjeessa neuvottiin - Onnistunut lopputulos!

Here (picture above) a test knitter made the cowl with thinner yarn and together we modified it one lace pattern wider and higher - The result is beautiful, and definitely wearable! Looks beautiful!

Tässä (kuva yläpuolella) taas testineuloja teki kaulurin hieman ohjetta paksummalla langalla (Novitan7veljestä) ja lopputulos toimii näinkin eikä kokoero ole ollenkaan huomattava ja kauluri venyy käytössä muotoonsa.

Here (above) a test knitter made the cowl with a slightly thicker yarn (worsted) and the end result is very nice and the size difference is almost unnoticeable and the cowl will stretch in use.

Testineulojat saivat aikaan kerrassaan upeita Jäkäläkaulureita. Niin kauniita! Jokainen oli valinnut niin upean luonnon värin, että tälle kaulurille olisi voinut antaa nimeksi aivan yhtä hyvin vaikka Sammal- tai Kanerva-kauluri. Iso kiitos jokaiselle ohjeen testanneelle - olette kultaa!

The test knitters made absolutely amazing cowls with this pattern. So, beautiful! Each had chosen a natural colour that fit the pattern just perfectly. This cowl could be called Moss- or Heather Cowl just as well. Huge thank you to all my test knitters - you are gold!
